“My nomadic upbringing and curiosity for visual perception has encouraged me to respond to man-made landscapes and the complexity of our natural surroundings. By observing how we process the natural versus man-made, I have become very interested in the therapeutic effects of visual simplicity and how they are present in our urban landscape. My inspirations have been the Bauhaus mindset and Brutalist architecture.
This abstract geometric painting is a study on form, symmetry and repetition. The composition being centralised around a mathematically plotted grid, this painting is very much inspired by human’s desire for simplicity and its psychological effects.
I try to build a dialogue between emergence and disappearance through the layered process – I achieve this by revealing the previous layers through sanding and scratching into the surface layers. This results in a very complex base composition, which is why I use the deep black circles as a grounding elements to visual simplicity.”
