BLEUR Workshop series: [EXPOSED] // Artist: Denisha Anderson

GET TICKETS

January 25, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

£35

Capturing the moment that conveys powerful emotions is one of the most challenging aspects to master in photography. The aim of this workshop is to shift the focus away from the aesthetically beautiful and focus on why the subject matters. This unique workshop is the first of its kind where the art of photography is experienced rather than taught. Participants will be paired up and experience in turns being the subject and the photographer to truly understand the importance of being emotionally connected to their subject. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained an understanding of the difference between a photograph being technically motivated and being motivated by the subject.

This event is part of the Bleur [INSERT FEELING HERE] campaign, an artist reflection on chasing our own emotions, the highs and the lows and making space for everything in between.

This workshop is aimed at aspiring photographers with a good foundation knowledge of photography. Participants are required to bring their own digital camera and the ability to transfer images to a computer (provided) for sharing during the workshop.

Price includes all refreshments and delicious snacks to fuel your creativity. Over 18s only.

About the artist

Denisha Anderson is a South London photographer whose unique style has earned her widespread praise in publications such as Magenta Flash Forward Catalogue and Huffington Post and whose recent exhibitions include MAN at the V&A Museum and WHO at Take Courage Gallery London. Denisha picked up her first camera when she was 17 and has been working in film and photography ever since alongside Spike Lee, Daniel Mulloy and Joost Vandebrug. Providing an alternative narrative on themes of identity, gender and race, Denisha challenges perceptions and calls for a celebration of our differences and shared experiences through her powerful photographs. At the heart of her practice lies a deep intimate emotional connection to the subject matter which carries through her work.

How to find us

We are tucked away in the Old Biscuit Factory, a historical site which was once the heart of Bermondsey.

The entrance to the Biscuit Factory is at the junction between Webster Road and Clements Road. Search for the sadly permanently closed Shortwave cafe on Google maps, the entrance to our building is the opposite side of the parking lot. Go through the gated entrance as if you were local and look for the white double doors with a staircase at the end of the parking lot. Keep going up the stairs until the very last floor (those stairs never get easier). You will find Bleur Studios at the end of the corridor, Room 308.

We are very sorry but there is no accessible access to Bleur Studios at present. If you would like to attend, please get in touch with us.

We may capture some pictures and video of art in the making during the workshop. By registering for the workshop you confirm that you are happy for us to use this content for our distribution channels.
